This week, the Sarasota County Schools Police Department hosted a L.E.A.D. training (Law Enforcement Against Drugs) for SCSPD officers and officers from other agencies. Becoming certified in the program takes a whole week, and we had officers travel from as far as Nevada to participate. The D.O.E-approved L.E.A.D. program has replaced the D.A.R.E. program you probably remember. SCSPD officers will teach L.E.A.D. lessons to every 5th grader in the 2023-24 school year.
Fun fact: we currently have approximately 55 SCSPD officers certified to teach in a K-12 classroom!
